U10 Stripes v Moston Brook
Shame to lose 3-2 to Moston Brook in our early start this morning. But an enjoyable game to watch between two evenly matched sides and it could have gone either way.
Only the 7 there for KO, but soon joined by Arsalan, we started with Ryan in net, Elijah and Bailey at the back, Hadiur in centre mid, Ellis up front, Tom and Zain on the wings.
A couple of early chances for Zain, but good covering by the Moston defenders cleared the danger before they broke away and scored in a counter attack. A score that remained till half time despite some good passing movements between the lads.
We had a chat about a few “flick” passes and the need to hit the ball cleanly at half time and used Elijah as an example as he was striking good firm balls down the line, but his team mates were running towards him rather than away into space.
Soon into the 2nd half, Elijah got the ball on the left, Bailey dashed down the wing and Elijah found him in space. Again good covering from the Moston defender put him under pressure and he was unfortunate to put the shot wide.
We took control of the game from here and Ellis, who captained the side today, capped a fine performance and fired in two quick goals. Both good passing moves, finishing clinically to put us a deserved 2-1 up as we were creating by far the more chances.
But we couldn’t hold onto that lead as tiredness set in with only having the one sub. Moston equalised from a set piece and with a couple of minutes to go they snatched the winner.
The disappointment showed in the boys faces at the end, but it was a good game and gave myself and Damion the chance to ask them to think differently about the game and not always go for the obvious.
I thought they played very well and some of the passing movements was excellent. Another day, another score in our favour.
Well done boys, unlucky
