U11 Stripes v C&G

First game of the summer league and a good match this morning v Clarksfield and Glodwick, end to end stuff with both teams dominating at different times during the game.

Squad:- Ryan, Fatai, Elijah, Ibrahim, Billie, Hadiur, Zain, Ellis, Tom, Alfie, Arsalan and Bailey.

Result 2-2

Playing 9 a side for the first time, on half a full size pitch, 30 minutes each way and with the offside rule in place, it was a lot for the boys to adapt to, but they did well especially with being asked to play in different positions as players came on and off every 5 or so mins to keep them active and not shivering in the rain.

Chances came at both ends, but Clarksfield took the lead after 15 mins. The lead didn’t last long though as we got a free kick outside of the area and Arsalan put it over the wall and into the top corner. Great goal. So 1-1 at half time.

In the 2nd half it was again end to end stuff and we got another free kick outside the area. This time Bailey took it and matched Arsalans effort in the first, putting it over the wall and into the back of the net, another great goal.

We had opportunities to go further ahead, but got caught offside couple of times, which cost us in the end as Clarksfield finished strongly chasing an equaliser. Ellis challenged for the ball outside our area and in my opinion was fouled, but the ref saw it differently and gave it the other way. They equalised from the the resulting free kick, the wet ball slipping through Ryans outstretched hands, over his head and behind the line.

A disappointing end, but all in all a good performance considering the conditions, the change in format and the fact we were facing a team from a higher division in the winter league. I like the summer league because of this, it lets us see how the boys perform against teams from a higher division and is a good indicator of whether they are ready to step up a division in winter again. 3 promotions in 4 seasons is good going.
